Good Morning Friends,
A fresh one this morning in Christchurch, wow! Good Sauna weather that's for sure!
It's blowing my mind to think we're almost half way through the year. Are you on track for your 2024 goals? Now's not a bad time to do a check in with yourself + set some new ones for the first half of 2025.
Have a look at the what I've learned section, it's about goal setting and default actions which is something I've had top of mind in the last week.
David
Highlights from last week:
* 2 weeks into 75Hard, so far so good, loving it and reckon that everyone should have it on their bucket list
* Almost at my "Bessie" goal, if you know you know
* Donated blood, first ime in a month or so. Hurt but felt good to do it!
* Mens Mastery Mastermind Event (different than the lunch) in planning stage / almost locked in
* Boosted posts running and experimentation happening
* New habit tracking & accountability process installed for coaching clients and my personally,
* Filming 2 x ads this week. One for the Loft and one for EFMC
* Client gifting program continuing and constantly being refined. (see below)
What Have I learned:
Default Actions
What's your default action?
Say you've got a couple of minutes spare, is it a social media app? Probably.
I mean hey, I'm not perfect but I am consciously working to replace this default with one of three alternatives. One is journaling:
* Get a notebook or two, have them around the house for convenience. Just start writing, what's on your mind, what are you grateful for, what are you working on, notes, brain dump, starting with a deep question eg "How do I best use my time"
* Another is looking at my goals. For ease I've got an apple notes list as well as the more extensive google doc sheet that myself and coaching clients use. I find that by looking at goals, it recalibrates what's important and what isn't aka doom scrolling.
* The other is reading a book. Again, have a few around the house, get something that you're keen to learn or a story you want to know. Mix it up. If a certain genre isn't doing it for you. Move on.
I think since starting 75Hard a couple of weeks ago I've gradually become better at these replacements. It could be the reading, it could be the clarity of mind through the two workouts and the no booze or it could be a combination.
It could also be that I've got to get in the 10 pages of a book so by doing that, it sets me up to want to tick that off + keep going.
One thing is for sure though, the less time on social media, the better. It's a vacuum and it'll steal your time, attention and energy.
It's not all bad but I believe it's one of those things that if you don't control it, it'll control you.
Personally the timers and third party apps to control usage haven't seemed to work that well, it's taken these couple of replacement habits to get me off them and to decrease time spent.
As the saying goes, what get's measured can be managed so that's one challenge to consider this week is to check your social media usage. Keep an eye on it and try and decrease it.
