Queenstown, Business Directory, Creator of the week
26 September, 2023
Happy Tuesday Friends!
A bit of a last minute effort on the weekly email. Something that I've been reminded of lately is the importance of scheduling. Especially with the 75Hard tasks. Some late, late nights down in Queenstown last weekend completing the challenge.
Highlights:
*The Business directory page as promised is now live, take a look at the legends I like to support / purchase from davidmelse.com/directory-1
* Recorded 2 x EPIC Podcasts. James Wallace as well as Michael Karabassis will be live soon. Two more great conversations.
* Have booked in / tentatively booked in 2 x people I really respect to record podcasts with in the next few weeks. More on that soon
* Impromptu Queenstown trip which was a decision made based on my value of adventures and experiences, more on that below
What Have I learned:
Figure out your values
Last Thursday night I decided to travel to Queenstown on the Friday, mid morning. Emily was already down there which was the main factor but despite this there were several reasons why NOT to go down there.
* I had to cancel / reschedule several plans
* The cost of the trip
* The severe weather warning and "Emergency status" the region was apparently in
* The outbreak of gastro and the water there being undrinkable
* The general energy needed (11 hours of driving both ways) blah blah blah
The easier option would of been to stay at home, chill, keep the plans that I had.
When evaluating this I thought back to so many conversations I've had lately around values and priorities and finding your why etc. I remembered what I have on my instagram bio which is that I value fitness and experiences.
Would this be an experience? Absolutely!
Long story long, I went down there, had a great time, spontaneously dropped into see an old school friend Antony Sproull at Air Milford and randomly flew to Milford Sound + did the cruise, both of which were absolutely spectacular. Emily and I had a great time down there, saw some sights, hung out, had a great drive back and all in all an amazing weekend.
If my values were security, comfort and safety it probably would of made sense to stay in Christchurch. Therefore when making decisions, big or small. Have a think about what your values are. It makes it a lot clearer as sometimes the easy option isn't the right one.
